KAUST Smart is the innovation engine that allows KAUST to create and provide a unique digital experience for visitors, employees, residents, and community members. KAUST Smart pushes the boundaries of innovation across the entire spectrum of “smart city” solutions to establish KAUST as a living laboratory for digital transformation, research, and testing.
As part of this initiative, trainees will collaborate closely with both internal and external teams. Their responsibilities will include identifying user pain points, facilitating design workshops to foster creative ideation, comprehending user needs, and collecting a diverse range of ideas, challenges, and opportunities aimed at enhancing user experiences. Additionally, trainees will actively engage in stakeholder and user interactions to refine experience design concepts. They will contribute to the creation of journey maps, storyboards, and other experiential artifacts, leveraging visual design techniques to elevate user engagement. Moreover, trainees will conduct field research, gather user interaction data, and analyze touchpoints to guide design decisions, thereby playing a pivotal role in the continuous development and enhancement efforts.

The Cybersecurity Department at KAUST plays a critical role in safeguarding the university’s digital assets, ensuring compliance with cybersecurity regulations, and mitigating potential risks. Comprising skilled professionals dedicated to maintaining the highest standards of security, the department works collaboratively with various units across the university to establish robust cybersecurity measures and protocols.
Trainees in this department will be responsible for conducting compliance assessments, ensuring adherence to cybersecurity regulations and standards. Upon identifying gaps and areas of non-compliance, trainees will develop actionable plans to address them, collaborating closely with legal, IT, and business units to ensure comprehensive cybersecurity compliance across all university operations.Furthermore, trainees will play a key role in preparing and delivering reports on compliance status, risk assessment findings, and recommendations for improvement to senior management. They will serve as frontline representatives, addressing inquiries from regulatory bodies and participating in external audits. Trainees will also be tasked with the ongoing development and maintenance of cybersecurity policies, procedures, and compliance documentation. They will conduct thorough cybersecurity risk assessments, systematically identifying vulnerabilities and potential threats to KAUST’s digital infrastructure.

Moreover, trainees will promote agile approaches and methodologies to streamline response times and accelerate development cycles. Trainees in this department will undergo comprehensive training in Robotic Process Automation (RPA). They will acquire skills in recognizing patterns among repetitive tasks across different sectors of the university and analyze data from various sources to identify potential processes suitable for RPA implementation. Additionally, trainees will assess associated challenges or pitfalls to ensure successful automation deployment. Furthermore, they will play a pivotal role in reviewing and testing proposed solutions developed by the development team to ensure accuracy, identify errors, and align with customer expectations.
