KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative
The KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative (KCRI), in collaboration with NEOM, is one of the world’s largest and most ambitious coral reef restoration programs, located in the heart of the Red Sea. This initiative combines groundbreaking science, innovative technology, and scalable solutions to shape a sustainable future for coral reef ecosystems.
Trainees in this department will gain both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in coral biology, restoration techniques, and marine life identification. They will actively participate in real-world applications, including micro-fragmentation, ocean-based nursery establishment, and out-planting methods. Additionally, trainees will develop technical skills in data collection, photomosaic capture, image analysis, and monitoring to support coral restoration efforts.

Other Requirements:
- Swimming Ability – Proficiency in swimming, as it is essential for effective fieldwork and underwater activities.

Sustainability
The Office of Sustainability at KAUST provides leadership and technical expertise in sustainable development. It aligns projects and programs to promote sustainability efforts, communicates initiatives to the public, and engages the community to enhance sustainability literacy and awareness.
The trainee will design, implement, and monitor sustainability projects to support KAUST’s Sustainability Vision. Responsibilities include developing outreach initiatives, assisting in the creation of sustainability guiding documents, and documenting projects and key performance indicators. The trainee will maintain a database of sustainability efforts from international higher education institutions and support the design of communication materials to promote KAUST’s sustainability initiatives.
