Overview
The Coral Restoration Stream is an integral part of the KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative (KCRI). Designed for high-potential recent Saudi graduates, the stream provides an unparalleled opportunity to kickstart their technical careers within the ambit of the world's largest coral restoration initiative. Beyond bridging the knowledge gap between higher education and the dynamic demands of the labor market, the program is crafted to deliver theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience in coral restoration. Participants advance through a specialized curriculum and hands-on training modules, applying their gained knowledge within the KCRI coral nurseries. Throughout this transformative journey, they benefit from mentorship by expert instructors, ensuring a holistic and impactful learning experience.

If you are interested in supporting both the Kingdom and NEOM in protecting the Red Sea Marin environments, this stream is for you.
Opportunities
The KAUST Coral Restoration Initiative (KCRI) is a large-scale coral reef restoration program in the Red Sea. The project is a joint partnership with NEOM that is being sustainably developed from the ground up with the world’s most advanced technologies to redefine how individuals live and work.
Trainees will work in multiple rotations under the supervision of the KCRI team, with the responsibility of achieving specific tasks in each rotation. Throughout their journey, trainees will work on coral pruning, coral propagation, transplantation of nursery-grown corals to needed sites and collection of coral data/imagery.

Environmental Management
Overview
This stream is for those who have a genuine love of nature and are passionate about creating a more sustainable, healthier environment for future generations.

If you have an understanding of data management, are able to interact with different stakeholders, and can deliver work on time, this stream is for you.
Opportunities
The Office of Sustainability at KAUST provides leadership and technical expertise on sustainable development, aligns projects and programs to integrate and promote sustainability efforts, communicates actions and initiatives to the public, and engages with the community on sustainability literacy and awareness.
Trainees in this department will play a crucial role in developing and implementing sustainability projects and initiatives. Their responsibilities will include conducting research, gathering data, and proposing innovative solutions. They will collaborate with project teams to plan and execute sustainability initiatives, which may involve organizing events, workshops, and awareness campaigns. Trainees will also actively document and collect sustainability key performance indicators (KPIs), analyzing data and preparing reports.
Moreover, they will support the design and creation of communications and outreach materials to promote sustainability initiatives, such as drafting content for newsletters, social media posts, and website updates.
Furthermore, trainees will collaborate with cross-functional teams within the organization to integrate sustainability principles into various aspects of operations and decision-making processes.

Trainees in this department will undergo comprehensive training in algae biotechnology. They will execute various methods following standard operational procedures and gain proficiency in scaling up algae culture from laboratory to large-scale production. Additionally, they will learn to operate equipment for downstream processes and conduct biochemical analysis of different algae samples.
Moreover, trainees will develop the skills to design their own experiments to test hypotheses effectively. They will also learn to produce high-quality scientific reports or articles, showcasing their research findings and contributing to the advancement of knowledge in the field of algae biotechnology.

As a prominent leader in environmental consulting in Saudi Arabia, it provides invaluable support and expertise to numerous giga-projects, government and corporate entities, as well as non-profit organizations and local initiatives. With a focus on research and assessment, Beacon Development is dedicated to promoting sustainable practices and safeguarding the environmental integrity of the region.
Trainees in this department will play a vital role in supporting scientific research conducted by the aquaculture team, focusing on fish health. Their responsibilities will include collecting regular samples and conducting laboratory analyses for all experiments conducted by the aquaculture team. They will also be involved in handling, preparing, and processing histological samples using basic histology techniques, as well as handling, preparing, and processing samples for analysis in mass spectrometry equipment.
Moreover, trainees will be responsible for organizing the generated data for scientific reports and ensuring adherence to good laboratory practices in the laboratory environment.
